Frequently-asked questions

Why can't I log in to myUniSA?

You should be able to log on to myUniSA using the same username and password that you use for all UniSA network access, including Enrol Online. However, if you are a new student, your account will not activate until after you have successfully enrolled in your first class. It can take as long as 24 hours for this activation to occur. In general, if you enrol in a class during standard business hours on one day, your portal will be available by 9am of the following day.

Once your account has been activated, it will remain activated until you withdraw from all studies at UniSA or 30 days after you graduate. Please note that extended periods (more than an academic year) without any enrolments may be treated as a withdrawal from program for the purposes of network access.

If you believe you have been incorrectly denied access to the portal, please e-mail StudentPortal@unisa.edu.au.

Note: myUniSA is designed to support Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher. If you are using another browser, please try the Alternate Site before enquiring about access problems.

When I log onto myUniSA, there is no information in one or more of the screens.

If you are trying to access the student portal between 12 midnight and 3.30 am Central Standard Australian time, the student portal database is taken off line for the regular overnight update from the corporate student records system. Due to the number of recent enrolments during January 2006, this update time had to be increased for an extra hour. We apologise for any inconvenience, but we are working on trying to implement back ups without taking the database off line. We hope to have this in place by the end of February 2006.

myUniSA seems to run very slowly on my computer. What's wrong?

The portal is built using Microsoft's SharePoint technology, which provides a graphics- and feature-rich online environment. As such, it may take longer for certain areas of the portal to download, especially on slow dial-up connections. Pages will load noticeably faster the second and succeeding times that you visit the portal. We recommend that you explore all of myUniSA at least once so that your computer can cache as much of the graphics data as possible. If you then find the portal too slow even on your next visits, change to the Alternate Site.

When should I use the alternate version of myUniSA?

There are a few situations where the alternate site is useful.

a. Most importantly, the alternate site meets the University's commitment to providing web content that is accessible to all people. The regular Student Portal is developed using software that is not totally compliant with Web Accessibility guidelines, therefore we provide the alternate site. More information about web accessibility can be found by clicking on the Web Accessibility link in the footer of this page.

b. The alternate site provides a solution for people using browsers other than the Internet Explorer Ver 6.0 or above browser. (the recommended browser for the student portal).

c. If you are using a dial-up connection from outside the University or experiencing long download times, then the alternate site may improve the download times.

What am I missing by using the Alternate Site?

The Add Link on the portal home page and the Search in the menu bar.

Can I update my home and business e-mail addresses from within the portal?

No. This information is stored if it is supplied during the application process, but UniSA's standing policy is to only direct University e-mail communication to students' UniSA e-mail addresses. By preventing you from updating this contact information on the portal, we are hoping to avoid giving the impression that we will use these addresses to contact you-because we won't!
