At MISG 2003 we will
continue to emphasise the important role of both undergraduate and postgraduate students
as the industrial mathematicians of the future and as the future representatives of
industry. We intend to hold an informal workshop on Wednesday from 3.30 pm until
5.00 pm. The workshop will give students an opportunity to ask more experienced members of
the MISG community about the solution process with a strong focus on the MISG 2003
problems. We expect to have several eminent overseas visitors taking part in the
process and we will ask them to explain their views on the solution methods and to talk
about what they see as the critical issues. As we have done in previous years we will ask designated Mentors within each group to assist Moderators in finding suitable tasks for the students within their chosen research teams. We find each year that students make tremendous contributions to the research effort by analysing data, writing computer programs and by participating in research discussions. There is a role for everyone who is willing to learn. |
