Midyear entry

Applications to all our Undergraduate and most of our postgraduate degrees are made online via SATAC (the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre). However, for some of our postgraduate degrees, you’ll need to apply directly to UniSA. A list of these degrees can be found  on our Apply webpage.

If you’ve already made an application to start your studies with UniSA in semester one of this year, you won’t need to submit a new application. Simply log back into your current application on the SATAC website, change your preferences to include your midyear degree, and respond to any offers you were made previously to indicate you wish to be considered for your new, midyear preference(s).

Offers for midyear studies are generally released by SATAC between April and July. Not all degrees will take part in early midyear offer rounds, so don’t panic if you don’t hear back about your application until June or early July. If you have received an offer to study at UniSA - congratulations! We can’t wait to welcome you to the UniSA community.

• If you received an offer to your first preference, SATAC will automatically accept your offer on your behalf – there’s nothing you need to do.
• If you have received an offer for a program that is not your first preference, SATAC will automatically accept your offer and will still consider you for your higher preferences.

If your degree offers midyear entry, you’ll certainly be able to commence in your deferred place for midyear. Not all degrees offer a midyear intake though, so if your degree does not accept midyear applications, you’ll need to commence your studies in semester one of the following year.   Contact Future Student Enquiries to see if you have the option of commencing midyear.

Places to commence in postgraduate study are not able to be deferred through UniSA, however there are other options you can look into if you aren’t able to commit to full time study. For example, many programs can be studied on a part-time basis, so you may have the opportunity to enrol into one or two courses instead of delaying your studies altogether. If you’ve started university studies and decided the degree isn’t quite right for you, there are options available! If you are a UniSA student, you might want to discuss your options with our Career Services Team, who can assist with finding the right career path for you. 

Once you’ve identified the degree you are interested in, check to see if there is a midyear intake.  If your desired degree does have a midyear intake, you’ll be able to apply to transfer. It’s important to note that the application process may change depending on how much study you have been enrolled into.

Many UniSA degrees allow a UniSA student to internally transfer through an application with Campus Central if you have completed at least one subject. You can view degrees that accept internal transfers on the Campus Central website. If you have not completed at least one subject, or do not have a competitive entry method, you may need to apply through SATAC.

If you are currently studying with another university and would like to transfer to study with UniSA, applications will need to be submitted through SATAC.

UniSA considers a range of pathways for entry into our midyear degrees, including TAFE or RTO qualifications, previous high school results, previous university study, or even a Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) result. The STAT is a two-hour test made up of 70 multiple choice questions designed to test your aptitude for tertiary level study. Your STAT results will be used to create a ranking that you can use to compete for entry against other special entry applicants into your chosen program. To sit the STAT you will need to book via the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). Fees apply.

To be eligible for special entry, you must be aged over 18 by 1 February (or 1 July for midyear) in the year you wish to commence your study. If you have been enrolled at higher education level in the last 2 years, contact the Future Student Enquiries team to discuss your eligibility.
