Professor Peter Majewski

Peter Majewski joined UniSA in January 2003 as Bioinnovation SA Professorial Fellow at the Ian Wark Research Institute before accepting the position of Professor of Nanotechnology and Nanomanufacturing in the School of Advanced Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering, Mawson Institute, in January 2008. As a mineralogist his current research principally focuses on nanomaterials synthesis and processing, in addition to nanomanufacturing.

Peter graduated in geology from the University of Hannover, Germany, in 1985 and completed his PhD (Mineralogy) on cation diffusion in silicates from the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Hannover in 1988. In 1992, he received the Heinz Maier Leibnitz Award of the Department of Education and Science of the Federal Government of Germany for fundamental studies on the phase relations and synthesis of novel ceramic superconductors. Peter was Adjunct Professor in Applied Mineralogy at the University of Stuttgart between 1994-2000, having received his Habilitation in Mineralogy in 1998. In 2000, he received the International Research Exchange Scheme Award of the Australian Research Council, through which he joined the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Wollongong as an International Professorial Fellow. At UniSA, Peter is commencing a number of interdisciplinary research projects in the area of nano- and biomaterials encompassing covering fundamental and applied studies in such fields as the synthesis and processing of functionalised superparamagnetic magnetite nanoparticles for cancer diagnosis and the development of surface modified silica for water treatment. His research on ceramic and metal-ceramic composite materials focuses on materials for solid oxide fuel cells.
