SATAC Code: 434731
UniSA Program Code:
LHSH

This four year Honours degree is designed for high achieving and motivated students who have a genuine interest in making a contribution to scientific studies of fundamental importance to today’s society. The program will provide students with advanced learning opportunities in one of five significant areas of scientific endeavour, these being:

Each of these specialisations closely matches UniSA’s research profile.

Bachelor of Science (Honours) LHSH students will form a special group who will work closely with academics and researchers from the University’s research centres and Institutes who are at the leading edge of scientific knowledge in these areas. The students will undertake course-related projects in both first year and final year. An alternative to the final year project is involvement in final year Science Clinics in which multidisciplinary groups of students work together on major industry based projects under the supervision of academic advisors.

Each student will also choose a science minor and a collection of elective courses. In many cases it will be possible to extend the minor into a major. The program has a strong practical and industry focus, whilst also showcasing research strengths.

Graduates from this program will have highly developed analytic and problem solving skills and together with the knowledge and practical experience developed in their chosen specialisation will have an excellent set of capabilities to enhance their employment prospects. Graduates of sufficient merit will have the opportunity to proceed directly to postgraduate studies, either through Masters programs or PhD studies.

Program Structure

In first year all students study fundamental courses in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics, and participate in a multidisciplinary group project based on a hot topic in science. The project will be supported by studies in scientific communication.

Second year includes courses in Biology and Environmental Science. Courses in the student’s chosen specialisation commence in second year and continue through to the fourth year, including a major project or clinic.  Electives from other areas of science may be chosen in the third and fourth years.
