Planning for Electric Vehicles in Australia

Cars are a significant contributor to CO2 emissions in Australia. Electric
vehicles recharged from new renewable energy sources will play an important
role in reducing per-capita CO2 emissions to a sustainable level.
This AutoCRC project will provide information required to prepare for widespread use of electric vehicles in Australia. In particular, it will:
- estimate the proportion of fleet and privately owned vehicles that could be replaced with electric vehicles
- estimate the associated reduction in emissions of CO2 and other pollutants
- report on the need for public charging infrastructure
- analyse the impact on the electricity supply grid and on the need for new renewable energy generation
- work with fleet operators to organise a trial of electric vehicles in Adelaide.
