Corridor Capacity Analysis
(P Pudney, S Mackenzie, P Howlett and D Lee)
The Australian rail industry is aiming to double the rail task by 2020. This
Rail CRC project is examining methods and tools that can be used to analyse
rail corridor capacity and the effectiveness and costs of various techniques
that might be used to improve rail corridor capacity. The questions to be
addressed included:
- What are the key performance indicators for train and rail network operations?
- What methods and tools are used to determine how well a rail corridor or network will cope with different traffic scenarios?
- What techniques can be used to increase capacity, and what are the benefits and costs?
- What else is required to increase rail's share of the transport task?
