Computations and optimal bang-bang control

Optimal control of nonlinear systems has been of great interest for many
decades. For example, achieving a given task in the shortest possible
time has been a major performance criterion for many systems such as
rocket vehicles and industrial robots.
The project is specifically concerned with finding optimal bang-bang control. Several computational algorithms and associated computer codes have been developed including one implementing gradient projections, and another using a Lagrangian formulation.
This investigation was supported, over the past few years, by a number of competitive UniSA and ARC Small grants. Collaboration lines have been established for various aspects of this investigation with researchers from Germany and the USA.
