Modelling of driver behaviour

(J Sleep, J Filar, I Hudson, J Davey)

While level crossing accidents account for a small proportion of the overall road toll, they are an important public safety issue as they have very severe consequences in terms of fatalities and property damage.

This project involves modelling of driver behaviour at railway level crossings, in order to study the interactions between factors and to compare the relative effectiveness of engineering solutions and different education programs in reducing accident risk.

This work is part of Cooperative Research Centre for Railway Engineering and Technologies (RailCRC) Project 83, The development of a community intervention program for level crossing education.
