Guidelines for students

You must take responsibility for your own study program

The marketing degree has been designed to have a minimum of rules and pre-requisites so that students can benefit from the flexibility that it offers. In addition, we publish very detailed course information so that you can work out for yourself how to put together the best study program to suit your own interests, capabilities and professional aspirations.

A consequence of all this is that you must follow the few rules that we have, e.g.:

If you wish to take courses from other schools, you will need to contact the School offering the second discipline for details of courses offered, their availability and their pre-requisites, as these are subject to change. In addition, you should review and check your study program each year. This is because there are likely to be significant changes to the Division's courses every year, and new (and more attractive) options may be offered.

Deadlines must be met

The marketing and business world is based on deadlines. If a deadline is missed (for example for placing an advertisement, for making an export shipment or lodging a tender), the job will be lost and the outcome may be disastrous for the organisation - and perhaps for the individual concerned! Marketing staff therefore expect adherence to deadlines.

Students are given ample notice of deadlines for all assignments. All assignments must be submitted before the deadline via AssignIT.  Please see your Course Information booklet for the return assignment policy, as this may differ from course to course.

Attendance is important

As a student, you gain a great deal from attendance at lectures and tutorials. When attendance is specified (in a course outline), students who do not attend the indicated proportion of sessions in that course may be precluded from an examination or other assessment.

Plagiarism is not accepted

Plagiarism means copying from, or basing a work on, another person's work or a text or article (without appropriate acknowledgement). Plagiarism is not accepted.

Exam schedules

Examinations in marketing courses are held in the official examination periods at the end of each study period. Students have the responsibility to ensure that they can attend examinations held in those periods.

Resubmitting work

Students should note that work may be resubmitted for remark only after discussion with the senior tutor of the course.  This applies to all courses conducted by the School of Marketing.
