Grades in marketing courses

To pass, all students must demonstrate a clear understanding of the essential points, be able to demonstrate or interpret correctly a principle or framework.  Anything less than this represents a degree of failure.

Marketing assignments and exam papers are marked in accordance with the following specifications:

High Distinction (HD - 85-100% marks):  Very exceptional; brilliant quality.

Distinction (D - 75-84% marks): Excellent quality; complete in every way; demonstrates real understanding and shows great insight.

Credit (C - 65-74% marks): Very good indeed; very thorough and demonstrates initiative and clear thought; shows some of the qualities of a D grade but lacks total completeness or shows no "insightfulness".

Pass Level 1 (P1 - 55-64% marks): Good; all essential points covered plus some of the minor ones; accurately written and well presented in clear, logical manner. This level is normally required for pre-requisite courses.  If students receive a "P1" grade, they should not feel that they are doing badly or that marketing staff are hard with marks.  For most assignments and examinations, most students should receive a "P1" grade; that is quite normal and is to be expected.  In small classes (40 or less), it is possible that the average grade will be higher due to the greater individual attention.

Pass Level 2 (P2 - 50-54% marks): Just satisfactory; all essential points covered and correct structure used; reasonably thorough and adequately presented with good spelling and grammar.

Fail Level 1 (F1 - 40-49% marks): Unsatisfactory to poor; some essential points not covered or expression of them unconvincing; adequate content but poorly stated or presented (with poor spelling and grammar); evidence of lack of understanding of the course.

Fail Level 2 (F2 - below 40% marks): Very poor; missing essential points; clear lack of understanding or thought.
