This
degree includes the study of the philosophy, history and psychology of
leisure; leadership in sport and recreation; programming and event management; sport and
recreation administration; marketing; economics and law; strategic management;
accounting. Students take part in two field
placements or 'practicums' that enable them to establish vital industry
links and contacts. In addition to the industry 'practicums', students
can choose electives in their second and third years which allow them to
focus on a specific area, referred to as a stream of choice.
Students are encouraged to think broadly about these options, as well as student exchange programs overseas. Upon completion of this program, students are able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. They are able to lead, motivate, instruct and manage others; implement programs, skills in the planning and management of sport and recreation programs and facilities; effectively manage financial, personnel and physical resources; and effectively solve problems.
