Students of the Arts and Cultural Management program come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Many have experience in both performing and visual arts, while others have experience in administration, business and even education. The program is designed for people with an understanding and passion to make art happen and a desire to gain the necessary management knowledge and expertise to make this a reality.
Generally applicants are required to have completed an undergraduate degree and have a minimum of two years relevant professional experience. We acknowledge, however, that a large number of people working in the arts industry do not have formal tertiary qualifications, and applicants with significant work experience in lieu of undergraduate qualifications, will be considered.
Established in 1979, the Arts and Cultural Management program is not only the oldest but also the largest program of its kind in Australia. Our graduates work in many and varied positions both in Australia and internationally. Management positions in museums, galleries, symphony orchestras, ballet companies, opera companies, theatre companies and arts centres and festivals are just some of these exciting opportunities. Our advisory board is made up of top managers and respected professionals in the field.
Participation in the Arts and Cultural Management Program should be recognised as an investment in your future. It puts you in touch with current best practice thinking in both cultural and generic management and increases management effectiveness through:
In addition, we also offer a comprehensive research degree program. To assist this we have initiated an online academic research journal, the Asia Pacific Journal of Arts and Cultural Management, which promotes research publication and discourse throughout the region.
