Arts and Cultural Management Symposium

The Arts and Cultural Management Program in
the School of Management hosted a research symposium called, "How do we
value arts and culture" on Tuesday 3rd February.
Over seventy people
attended, including representatives from the University of South Australia,
Arts SA, Arts Victoria, the Australia Council, the University of Melbourne,
Deakin University, Adelaide University, the Australian Bureau of Census and
Statistics, the South Australian Department of Further Education,
Employment, Science and Technology, the Collections Council, many local arts
organisations and individual artists and practitioners.
The keynote speaker was Professor John Holden, formerly
Head of Culture at Demos, London and now visiting professor at City
University, London. Other speakers included Associate Professor Barry
Burgan, Head of the Business School at Adelaide University and Associate
Professor Louise Johnson from Deakin University.
Professor Holden's keynote address at the symposium was
published in The Australian on February 5th 2009. The
papers from the symposium, including Professor Holden's, will be published
in an upcoming version of the Asia Pacific Journal of Arts and Cultural
Management. The whole symposium was video recorded by the university and
will be available as a podcast for students of the arts management program
and any other interested parties.
