The Learning and Teaching Unit, with the support of the Divisions, has developed a number of cross-cultural programs and activities for International students and friends. See below for more details.
The Division of Education, Arts and Social Sciences is linking commencing students with 'uni-mentors' (continuing students who volunteer to assist new students - mentees) to settle into university and to help them navigate the uni system. Uni-mentors provide information and support to commencing students or students who are seeking help with university issues.
The aim of the 'Uni-mentors' program is to link commencing students with experienced current students doing similar Programs. For more information about the 'Uni-mentors' program please visit the Uni-mentee online workshop.
The Network Mawson Lakes Project is a unique model of collaboration between local residents, clubs, businesses, schools, the university, the police, the council and international students. It facilitates connections and meaningful interaction between international students and local residents through a variety of initiatives. The Project has brought social and economic advantages for international students and local residents through volunteering opportunities, collaborative projects and partnerships. These opportunities also support a deeper understanding of other cultures and lifestyles and thereby create greater harmony, understanding and tolerance in the local community.
The Network Mawson Lakes Project aims to foster cross cultural interaction, racial tolerance and inclusion in ways that add to the diversity of the community through a wide range of activities.
