Living in Adelaide
Adelaide, the Festival City, capital of South Australia, is home to more than one million people. Our well planned city is surrounded by parklands, has an unbroken stretch of sandy beaches on its western boundaries and is within easy reach of the beautiful Adelaide Hills.
There are many things to do and places to see in Adelaide. A stroll through the city streets will take you past a mix of 150-year-old worker's cottages, elegant nineteenth century public buildings and striking modern architecture, all set in leafy streets close to parks and gardens.
North Terrace (the cultural heart of Adelaide) is home to the Art Gallery, South Australian Museum, State Library, Government House and Parliament House as well as two of Adelaide's universities. Both the City East and City West campuses of the University of South Australia are situated on North Terrace. A short walk from North Terrace will take you to the pedestrian shopping area of Rundle Mall, the cafes of Rundle Street East, the Adelaide Zoo and Botanical Gardens, the Festival Theatre complex and the River Torrens.
