General Project Information
Why is the
learnonline platform necessary?
UniSA is one of the few universities in Australia that is continuing to
operate an in-house developed online teaching and learning environment.
While this was a reasonable strategy in 1999 when UniSAnet was first
developed, the pace of changes in teaching and learning technologies means
that despite two major updates, UniSAnet now lacks the reliability,
flexibility and core functionality needed to support the online learning
technologies and services envisaged in UniSA's new teaching and learning
framework.
How are courses for each stage of implementation being decided?
Within each stage of the project each Division is responsible for
identifying courses for conversion so that they can be delivered by the
learnonline platform. A set of principles that provide guidance for the
course nomination decision making process have been developed.
A list of courses for conversion can be found on the learnonline website:
List of Courses Nominated for Delivery
in learnonline SP2 2010
What are the key components that will be available in the learnonline
platform?
The learnonline platform will include:
- The Moodle Learning Management System
- A Virtual Classroom Tool
- An ePortfolio Tool
- Copyright Monitoring and Reporting Tools
- An Anti-Plagiarism Tool
Each of the tools within the learnonline platform will adhere to the University's Accessibility requirements and guidelines
Information for Staff
How will a course be converted from UniSAnet to the learnonline platform?
For courses that are currently being delivered on UniSAnet, course
co-ordinators will have the choice of either asking for existing site
content to be converted in to learnonline or creating a new course using an
empty learnonline course template.
If existing content on UniSAnet is required to be converted, the learnonline project team will convert this material on behalf of the course co-ordinator. Online Advisers and Academic Developers will provide each course co-ordinator advice, guidance and support during this process.
Will there be any training for staff in the learnonline system?
Significant resources have been provided to ensure that all staff receive
the requisite training to ensure they are competent and confident with
developing and delivering courses on the learnonline platform.
Training will be available from face to face workshops, online
interactive resources and on-call guidance and support.
Face to face workshops will be provided on every campus for each stage of
the learnonline project.
If you are involved in a course that has been nominated for conversion to
learnonline in SP2 2010, you can register for a face to face offering using
the following address:
http://unisanet-apppro.levels.unisa.edu.au/registerit/lo-workshopregister.asp
Where can I experiment
with learnonline?
The University has a learnonline sandbox where staff can experiment
developing and organising a learnonline course. The sandbox will allow you
to experience the functionality and tools available within learnonline.
To request a learnonline Sandbox login please use the following address: http://dev.moodle.unisa.edu.au/course/view.php?id=1447
What about summer courses?
The learnonline system will not be available to support courses being
delivered in SP1 2010. These courses will be taught using UniSAnet. SP1
courses can be taught using learnonline for 2011.
Is
the HELP information the same for both Students and Staff?
Help resources within learnonline have been tailored to meet the specific
requirements of Staff and Students. Your login, as either a University staff
member or student will determine which Help resources you will see.
What
is the usability of learnonline compared to UniSAnet?
The learnonline system is a very intuitive and user friendly system.
Will learnonline run on my Mac?
As the learnonline platform uses web-based components many of these will
work with a Mac if you use a compatible web-browser. If you are viewing or
editing course material using a Mac you must use Firefox browser.
Does the calendar in learnonline sync with my Outlook calendar?
Currently the learnonline calendar will not sync with your Outlook calendar.
The learnonline project team will investigate this issue to determine if
this functionality could be provided in the future.
How are students going to be trained or inducted into the new system?
There are online help resources available to students within learnonline
which provide a training and support for students. Campus Central will also
provide guidance to students on how to access the resources and support
information.
Academic staff will be provided with a 'Welcome to learnonline' student e-Pack
that will provide information and guidance to students on the new learning
platform. These e-packs will contain all the information students will
require to become proficient and confident with learnonline and are intended
to be distributed by Academics within the context of course delivery via
learnonline.
learnonline information will also be integrated into existing and future LTU
online resources available to students and also within LTU activities
targeted at new University students.
Information for Students:
Where can I
find Help resources for learnonline?
You will be able to access resources directly from your course home pages.
These resources will provide you with specific instructions on functionality
within the system.
