Welcome to the Knowledge-Based Intelligent Engineering Systems Centre
Located within the Mawson Lakes Campus of the University of South Australia, the KES Centre is a research concentration within the School of Electrical and Information Engineering since 1996.
The KES Centre has been focused in providing state-of-the-art and world class research in the area of Intelligent Information Systems. The Centre has expanded its capabilities to include modeling, analysing, designing and research in the areas of physiological sciences and systems, defence-related systems, e-commerce and service engineering.
Our goals

Our guiding principles and vision
Our main principle is to synergise contributions from researchers in the diverse disciplines which include engineering, information technology, science, health, commerce and security engineering. KES is devoted in producing world-class research by collaborating with industry, government labs, on-shore and off-shore universities to provide our researchers with exposure to state-of-art infrastructure and high-calibre researchers in industry.
Our vision in KES is to provide the community with:
- Knowledge-based cost-effective electronic system design and diagnostic techniques to industry
- Excellence in teaching, attract postgraduate students and provide research support to local industries
- Enhancing electronic system design methodology by applying novel techniques such as knowledge-based techniques in system design, intelligent signal processing and real- time pattern recognition
- Development of new techniques for e-commerce and secure systems
