Background
Dr Terry Wilks received his BSc (Honours), MSc and PhD degrees from Newcastle University, UK. His PhD is in corrosion fatigue of turbine blade steels. He then worked in the UK industry, manufacturing steam turbine generators for power stations, as a Research Fellow at Northumbria University, UK, looking at the corrosion of titanium alloys in marine environments, for the British Ministry of Defence, and as Technical Manager in a heat treatment company.
Terry Wilks moved to Australia in 1989, jointly established the Surface Engineering Research Group, University of South Australia, and studied advanced surface coating technology, before working at the SA Centre for Manufacturing. With a strong metals, corrosion, coatings, surface analysis, materials, and industry background, Dr Wilks
is now the Institute Manager at the Ian Wark Research Institute, University of South Australia. He is a
member of the Institute of Materials Engineering Australasia and has conducted nationwide industry surveys, on behalf of the Australian Federal Government, concerning the use of advanced materials in Australian manufacturing industry, the Australian heat treatment industry and the Australian composites industry.
