Background
Satomi Onishi is a physical chemist with specific expertise in scanning probe microscopy and surface physics. Her MSc project was a study of opto-electric properties of plasma polymerised films/polymer gels induced by charge-transfer interaction using Phthalocyanine derivatives. She carried out her PhD project: AFM imaging of 2-dimensional protein crystals and interaction between sample surfaces cantilever: at RIKEN institute, Saitama, Japan. She joined the Department of Polymer Physics, National Institute Materials and Chemical Research (currently called AIST), Tsukuba, Japan and started working on Surface Forces Apparatus (1994-2004). She was also a visiting / research fellow at ANU (1998, 2000-2003). Satomi joined the Ian Wark Research Institute at UniSA in 2004 as an ARC QEII Fellow (2003-2008).
