Position
Research Fellow in Mineral Processing
Qualifications
BEng Trieste, Italy PhD Cagliari, Italy
Background
Max Zanin graduated in Mineral Processing Engineering at the University of Trieste (Italy) in 1996. His thesis work was on the Simulation and Modelling of Flotation Networks.
He completed his PhD in Earth and Environmental Engineering at the University of Cagliari (Italy) in 2000. The subject of his research was the use of mineral processing technologies for the recovery of Secondary Raw Materials, and in particular for plastic recycling. He carried out his research at the Universities of Trieste (Italy), Cagliari (Italy) and Delft (The
Netherlands), under the supervision of Prof. G. Ferrara.
He then spent three years at the Department of Chemical, Environmental and Raw Materials Engineering of the University of Trieste, as a Research Fellow.
In 2002 he was selected by the Italian Ministry for the Environment as an expert in solid waste recycling technologies and sustainable development, and worked in Rome until early 2003.
Max joined the Ian Wark Research Institute in May 2003.
Research Interests
Mineral processing: froth flotation and dynamic dense medium separation, fundamental and applied studies, modelling.
Solid waste treatment: application of mineral processing technologies for the separation and recovery of solid waste fractions (plastics, glass, paper, metals).
Technologies for polluted soil remediation.
Sustainable use of resources and optimization of processes in general.
