Expertise
The Ian Wark
Research Institute has
expertise in a diverse range of fields - from pharmaceuticals to mineral
processing to surface coatings. The underlying scientific theme that
connects all of The Wark's activities is the chemistry and physics of
interfaces. Often overlooked, the science of interfaces - the junctions
between different materials or phases - is central to many products and
processes that affect our everyday lives. These range all the way from
ancient technologies such as paints and inks, through to tomorrow's
world of nanotechnology and biotechnology.
The researchers at The Wark use their knowledge of this science to
understand and modify the behaviour of materials to improve processes or
solve problems for industry. We have particular expertise in the
following areas:
- Adhesion
- Adsorption
- Biointerfaces
- Clays
- Colloids
- Corrosion and failure analysis
- Emulsions
- Flotation
- Mineral processing
- Molecular modelling
- Particle characterisation
- Polymer characterisation
- Sulphide minerals
- Surface analysis and characterisation
- Thin films
- Wetting
