Evaluation of benefits from AMIRA International P260 projects

The AMIRA International project P260 has been ongoing since 1988 with the aim of improving flotation of minerals and in particular, its application in the minerals processing industry.  The P260 series of projects have focused on a number of different areas relating to flotation and has a combined total sponsorship of AU$9.95M and a total project value of AU$11.56M.

In order to evaluate the benefits from this series of projects, AMIRA International and The Wark/UniSA commissioned RMDSTEM Ltd, a specialist management consulting group with capabilities in the evaluation of R&D predominately in the resources sector, to carry out the study.

The study evaluated the benefits that have been delivered to industry and the community over the life of P260 and also indicates potential benefits that may be delivered in the future. The evaluation was based on end-user assessments of the outcomes ascertained from final project reports and direct contact with sponsor companies in the form of personal interviews and a questionnaire.

Results show $436 million has been added to the minerals industry through the research outcomes of P260.  The study also showed that the majority of customers had a high opinion of The Wark as a research provider and all customers wanted further research from The Wark and/or AMIRA International.
