The School of Information Technology & Mathematical Sciences is the largest information and communications technology provider in South Australia, and is regarded as one of the leading applied mathematics departments in Australia.
Our programs emphasise the development of critical thinking, creativity and hands-on learning to produce graduates who are in high demand. We offer undergraduate, honours and postgraduate degrees in mathematical sciences, data science, information technology, software technology, games and entertainment design, systems administration, cloud computing, business systems, software engineering and multimedia. In addition, the School offers over 75 courses to students enrolled in a broad range of disciplines including science, engineering, environment, business and health.
We are home to three research centres: The Advanced Computing Research Centre, Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics and Phenomics and Bioinformatics Research Centre. All three have state-of-the-art facilities with world renowned links and associations that provide a dynamic teaching and research base for our students. We also have links to other research bodies within the university, such as the Ian Wark Research Institute and the Barbara Hardy Institute, thus ensuring a multi-disciplinary approach to our work. Australia’s first Industry Doctoral Training Centre within the school trains PhD students in applied mathematical and statistical techniques, through innovative industry-based projects.
External engagement with the community represents another important class of our activities. Our staff members are active in outreach programs promoting the learning of mathematics at primary and secondary schools. The School also provides information technology, mathematical and statistical consultancy to the community, business and industry.
