Special Entry for Indigenous Students
A method of special entry is provided by ISS for Indigenous people
who haven't the usual pre-requisites to enter a UniSA Program.
If you have completed year 12 and or a TAFE Certificate level 4 we
recommend that you apply through the South Australian Tertiary
Admissions Centre (SATAC) these application guides and forms come out in
August and can be obtained from ISS staff or purchased from any
newsagency.
If you don't have year 12 or a Certificate level 4 you can complete an
Indigenous Student Services Selection Package.
This package is made up of three parts
-
personal essay
-
comprehension exercise
-
numeracy exercise
The Selection Package can be completed at any on or off campus Study Centre, or it can be posted out to you for you to complete at home if you can't come in to one of the centres. If the Selection Package is sent to you at home, you have 10 days in which to complete it and send it back to be assessed by ISS staff.
Once you have successfully completed the Selection Package you will then need to complete a SATAC form and lodge that with SATAC before the end of September with the required administration fee in 2004 $33.00.
Completion of the Selection Package provides a useful guide to how well you are likely to cope with university level studies, ISS staff can show it to the Program Director of the Program you are interested in and they can then recommend that you be given a place in that Program. The Selection Package is also useful for ISS staff as it will highlight any areas where you may have difficulties so that strategies can be put in place to ensure you are successful. One of the strategies to ensure students get off to a good start is to work one on one with an Aboriginal Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ATAS) tutor who would be a specialist in the area of study you enrol in.
Depending on which Program you are interested in you will be assisted by the staff member from the campus where that Program is offered and they will become your Home Group staff member and primary contact person.
