Future directions
Mass Indigenous higher education is here to stay: from now on, most young Indigenous people will go to university. Indigenous communities and organisations need people with a wide range of skills, in management, health, economic activity, education, conservation, law and information technology, and many of these skills are only available at universities. Careers in the near future will depend, not on physical labour, but on knowledge: future workers will be knowledge workers. And the future in now.
Indigenous people are now, and will always be, in this world of knowledge workers. The great majority of Indigenous young people will need to seize their growing opportunities for higher education, if only because alternatives are becoming more limited. The Indigenous Student Services provides a range of assistance and back-up for all Indigenous students, so that they can be confident of graduating and going on to the careers of their choice.
