Why do I get a blue screen when I try to use the wireless network?

This error affects the City West and City East Campus, caused by a major
network upgrade across these sites. The affected network card is the the
Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG, popular as a fitted or onboard solution by many
laptop manufacturers.
This issue can be resolved by updating the driver for the wireless card
and following the instructions listed below:
- Download the latest drivers for your 2200BG
wireless card from this website (Download
File) [3.83MB]
- Save the drivers to USB flash drive or CD.
- Boot the laptop in Safe mode. (See
step one for information on booting your laptop in safe mode)
- Remove the drivers from the Laptop using device
manager. (See step two for information on using
device manager)
- Copy the new drivers from your USB flash drive or
CD to your laptop.
- Unzip the files. (See step three
on how to unziping files)
- Install the new drivers to the laptop. (See
step four on installing the new drivers)
- Reboot the laptop in normal mode.
- Test the wireless connectivity.
Step one: Booting your laptop in safe mode:
- Power on your laptop.
- As soon as the laptop is powered on continually
press the F8 key.
- You will then be presented with a screen with a
number of options.
- Use your up and down arrows to navigate the menu.
- highlight "start the computer in safe mode" and
press enter.
- the computer will now start in safe mode.
Step two: Uninstalling drivers from device manager:
- Click on the start menu.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Double click the system icon.
- Click the hardware tab.
- Click on the Device manager button.
- Expand network adaptors.
- Right click your 2200BG card.
- Select Uninstall.
Step three: Unzipping files:
- Right click on the zip file you downloaded on the
Pool or Barn Computer.
- Select extract all.
- follow the wizard until the end.
- you will now have a folder with the extracted
files.
Step four: Installing the new drivers:
- From the extracted files double click
DPInst.exe
- Follow the steps to install the drivers.
