    Advanced Notice of Potential Service Interruption: Active Directory Domain

    Service(s) affected:

    Active Directory Domain Services (UNINET Domain), Wireless, VPN and Dialup Authentication

    Date(s)and Times: Saturday 14th Nov 2009 - 08:00AM - 10:00AM
    Impact of Interruption: During the period above, any users that logon to the UNINET domain could experience the following short-term symptoms:
    - Prompts to re-authenticate to certain web based applications
    - Temporary performance degradation of student email sessions including Outlook Web Access
    In addition, for a 10 minute window, the following network services will be unable to authenticate new connections:
    - Wireless network
    - Corporate VPN
    - Dialup access
    Reason: Scheduled System Maintenance
    Special Notes: Client authentication services should not be affected as at least 2 domain controllers will be available at all times to service requests. The interruption to the wireless network, corporate VPN and Dialup access is for a 10 minute window only.

    FileMaster Users
    Please note that the FileMaster database is experiencing instability and occasional outages.
    This is not unexpected, as the database has aged (same version since 1996) and the environment in which it operates has significantly changed.
    This is not a matter of repairing the software application, but of nursing it until replacement.
    Remedial action is therefore needed:
    As a result there will be no new user groups added to the database. This means no new Headers.
    No new deployments of the database will occur - this means no new users.
    If you are already a user, and you need a re-install, then we will attempt to re-connect you.
    I hope this reduction of load will enable the database to continue to help us manage the University's archived material.

    Services may be intermittent if further large rainfall occurs.
    Estimated Restoration of Service: Services may be intermittent if further large rainfall occurs.
    Cause:

    Large rain fall over Port Lincoln is causing disruptions to network services Port Lincoln and in future possibly Whyalla . BoM 256km Weather Radar. Rain fall across the radio path causes the link to fade which results in lost network traffic. Once it passes the network returns to normal operation. Refer to HPSD SC# 375774
