When you visit web pages on the Internet from a computer on a UniSA campus you are downloading data from the Internet. If you are a UniSA student this is normally debited against your Internet quota. If you are a UniSA staff member (or a doctoral or research student) this is back-charged to your school or cost centre.
However, traffic between UniSA and most universities and research institutions is effectively free if the hosting institution is a member (or associate or affiliate) of AARNet or an equivalent overseas research and education network such as TEIN2, GEANT, JANET or Internet2. These are collectively referred to as "on-net" sites. If you want to check if a site you plan to access extensively is an "on-net" site you may be able to check this with the on line tool, AARNet3 Network Address Query, provided by AARNet.
Note that this applies to access from on campus (including the UniSA wireless network). Access to web sites from your home computer is subject to your Internet Service Providers normal traffic charges regardless of whether they are "on-net" and "off-net" sites.
Also note that "free" access to "on-net" sites refers only to the absence of Internet traffic charges to the University and not to any other charges applying to on-line purchases etc.
