How can I save my work in the general purpose pools and barns?

Return to: ISTS FAQ Home > Computer systems

The University computer pool PCs are equipped with floppy disk drives, CD-RW drives and USB ports for use with USB "flash drives" (sometimes called "pen drives" or "thumb drives"). The university recommends that you use USB drives or CDs as floppy disks are prone to failure. Save your document to My Documents on the E:\ drive as you are working on it, periodically copying your work to a floppy disk, flash drive, or CD-RW media. When all work is complete data should finally be saved to your floppy disk, flash drive or CD-RW media.

Note:  The E:\ drive provides temporary working space only.  You must copy your files to your own removable storage before you log off as all files saved to E: will be deleted when a different user logs onto that machine.
