Why does the text look blurry in Internet Explorer?

Return to: ISTS FAQ Home > Applications > Ie7

If your screen looks blurry in Internet Explorer or has bolded text it may be caused by ClearType. ClearType is designed to help text visibility on LCD monitors by making the text easier to read. However this can have the opposite effect on the older CRT style monitor.

You can adjust the ClearType settings by going to the ClearType Microsoft website and following the online instructions.

If you still experience blurry or bolded text you can turn ClearType off.  To do this open Internet Explorer, go to the Tools menu and click Internet Options.  (If the Tools menu is not visible, please refer to the FAQ on Why can't I find my menus in Internet Explorer 7?)

Click the Advanced Tab, scroll to the Multimedia section and clear the check box next to "Always use Clear Type for HTML" and click OK.

You will need to restart Internet Explorer for the change to take effect.
