TIP 5: Empty your Deleted Items folder
When you delete an item in an Outlook 98/2000 folder, it is automatically moved to the Deleted Items folder.
You can choose to either delete items which have been placed in the Deleted Items folder every time you close Outlook, or to keep them there temporarily. To minimise unnecessary usage of your space on the Exchange server, It is recommended that the Deleted Items folder be emptied when Outlook is shut down.
To set the Deleted Items folder to empty automatically when you exit Outlook 98/2000:

from the Tools menu, select Options....

on the Other tab, choose the Empty the Deleted Items folder upon exiting checkbox

click OK .
To empty the Deleted Items folder manually:

from the Tools menu, select Empty Deleted Items

click OK
OR
-
in the Folder List, right-click the Deleted Items folder

click Empty Deleted Items Folder on the Shortcut menu.
