Workshops and seminars

The seminar series is a unique opportunity for members of ISST to interact with the community in an hour long presentation of cutting edge research.

Speakers range from current postgraduate students to invited guests of ISST.  If you have a topic that you feel would be of interest to the wider community, please contact our Institute Administrator to arrange an appointment to discuss this possibility.

As part of ISSTs expanding research profile specialised workshops and seminars are conducted at various times throughout the year.  These functions are open to the general public and allow greater insight into world problems and solutions being undertaken.  Below are some highlighted presentations that form a series of informative discussion groups.

Dr Mathis Wackernagel
Co-creator of the Ecological Footprint concept and Executive Director of the Global Footprint Network, presented a free public forum on Living well on one planet: Future proofing South Australia.  The Ecological Footprint is a measure of human demand on the Earth's resources.  It indicates whether we are living within nature's ability to provide resources or whether we have exceeded that limit, and shows the level of change necessary to move towards sustainability.  The Footprint captures the connections between a range of ecological impacts, including (but not limited to) carbon emissions.  Following the success of this Forum a summary of  key points has been created for download.  His presentation about navigating tough decisions in a resource-constrained world has left those of us who heard it with a lot to think about, particularly with respect to what it means for us and how we can act on the message in our day-to-day lives.  Please follow this link to download the summary (Word file 124 kB).  If you have Windows Media Player 9 or 10 on your PC, you may watch the video of Dr Wackernagel's forum Living well on one planet online.
