Green Travel DayMedia Release

ISSTs interests are diverse, ranging from water recycling systems and energy efficient housing to new systems for sustainable manufacturing.  We run the National Laboratory for Transport Network Analysis, have mapped the ecological footprint of South Australia regions, and helped Orlando Wyndham add value to its business with a new grape sampling device.

A common response from clients is that "UniSA will definitely be among the first people that we'll call to help us in the future".

ISST provides short-term consultancies, contract research, industry-based education programs and testing services for projects and can match research needs with funding opportunities. As UniSA is a recognised research agency, clients can structure research programs to gain taxation benefits.

Some recent projects include:

No-till farming machinery research and development at UniSA is helping farmers handle the reality of Australia's unreliable rain patterns (pdf file 316 kB) - No-till farming - sowing directly into crop residue, without prior cultivation and with little soil disturbance - increases crop water use efficiency, reduced soil degradation and erosion and can boost grain yield and financial returns, particularly in poor rainfall seasons (Weekend Australia, 28 June)

Putting numbers on the vehicle emission dilemma (pdf file 590 kB) - UniSA is providing the framework for Australia to control the environmental impact of motor vehicles (inBusiness, Issue 40, April/May 08, www.in-business.com.au)

Expanded star rating system for houses (pdf file 286 kB) - UniSA has pioneered major changes in how Australia measures, regulates and encourages energy efficiency in houses (Weekend Australia, 26 April)

Russell Johnstone from Orlando Wines visited ISST and outlined steps being undertaken in Environmental Sustainability by the winery.  For an overview of their strategy please download a copy of his powerpoint presentation (pdf file 550 KB).
