Staff induction
Workplace health and safety is both an individual and a shared responsibility and the success of the OHSW&IM system depends on a commitment from all members of the University. It is a requirement that all staff undertake induction.as a core component of their employment.
Staff are responsible for:
- carrying out their work in a manner which does not present a risk to themselves, others or to the environment
- obeying any reasonable directive given in relation to health and safety at work, including the use of equipment provided to protect health and safety
- complying with any procedure relating to health and safety at work
- contributing to the improvement of the OHSW&IM system through participation in consultative forums
- reporting all incidents, defects, hazards and inadequacies of procedures so that appropriate review and corrective action can be taken
- assisting in identifying OHSW&IM training and development needs and attending training
A number of forms have been developed to assist with induction but as a prelude to ISST please view this presentation (ppt 3.79MB) that outlines the Institute structure and our roles, as well as the responsibilities of staff.
To aid in your induction an Institute Induction Manual (Word file 336 KB) has been designed that is area specific and will introduce you to relevant contact personnel. You may also visit this website to view detailed information on a host of University procedures specifically designed for staff induction.
ISST has close affiliations with the schools of Advanced Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering, Natural and Built Environments, and Mathematics and Statistics. Upon commencing employment you may be required to undertake school-specific induction rather than the requirements of the Institute. Please note that you only have to undertake one set of procedures as they all pertain to occupational health safety and welfare. If in doubt then please contact Rita Mielnik, Institute Administrator, on 8302 5347 for clarification.
If you wish to discuss any aspect of your employment please contact, in the first instance, the Institute Administrator.
