Collaborative Design
Design is also an interesting concept, one thought aligned with Rittle and Webber's ideas on wicked problems. Strategy is seen to be a wicked problem. There is a growing appreciation that we need to collaboratively design solutions to our wicked, messy or social problems. Also see the work being done at Weatherhead School Of Management. A classic example is the design of long handled chimney sweeping brushes to make uneconomic the practice of sending children down chimney's to clean them. This design removed the problem of child deaths. Designing business or trade models that remove poverty would be another example. The Institute Of Design at Illinois University is a good example of users of collaborative design all be it they focus on designing products. The same principles could be applied to the design of social systems or services.
Concepts need to be designed ie. to be conceptualised
