Kristiina Laanti

Kristiina LaantiTen years of IT experience led Kristiina Laanti from Finland to the University of South Australia. Kristiina was so satisfied with her study experience she now works as a course coordinator at UniSA!

"UniSA has a good reputation and in Adelaide UniSA was the only university which offered management-related programs in the IT area. This program offered a great combination of courses I wanted to study".

UniSA's focus on internationalisation was a big plus, "I enjoyed the multicultural study environment and opportunities to work in multicultural teams. We had a lot of group-related activities and assignments, which means that you have plenty of opportunities to work with students from other countries as well as practise presentation skills." "Professionally this type of networking is priceless as we all work in the same area and I have friends now in so many countries!"

Another advantage of UniSA was the opportunity to work with an organisation as a consultant in IT development. "For many of us international students, that was a valuable opportunity to become familiar with how Australian companies conduct their business." "This kind of practical work shows you best how to apply your new knowledge in a real workplace."

Small class sizes and support from teaching staff made Kristiina’s study experience very positive. "UniSA has many great lecturers, who are willing to support as much as needed. If you ask for help you will definitely get it."

"Learning and Teaching Unit is a brilliant service. It offers study related information, workshops, guides and lots of other services to support your studies. The library has a great collection of study related books and an extensive collection of study-related journals to use (especially in electronic form). I found library staff very friendly and willing to assist students”.

The highlight of her studies at UniSA was the graduation ceremony. "Something so different from my country and you feel so much pride when you have successfully finished your studies in another language."

And how did Kristiina find living in Adelaide? Convenience and affordability made living and studying here a real pleasure. "Adelaide is the first city I have seen which truly has all the facilities of a big city but at the same time great quality of life and friendly people. I had 35 minutes walk from my home to campus… . It is much easier in Adelaide to find accommodation with affordable prices in the CBD area than for example in Sydney or Melbourne."
