Céline Joseph-François chose the University of South Australia as her
study destination because it offered the Master of Management at a
competitive cost and the campus is based in the Adelaide CBD. Céline
particularly likes the fact that the program “is varied and gives me
broad skills in management. It improves learning, writing and communication
skills and will be useful whatever job I’ll do afterwards.”
UniSA’s commitment to giving students real-world experience whilst studying
means our graduates are equipped with the qualities employers look for.
Céline has worked on practical case study assignments including Life Care
(Managing Change); Converse (Advanced Marketing); Godiva (Marketing Across
Borders) and Nestle (Impact of Technology). In Entrepreneurial Foundations,
she did a feasibility study to establish a French creperie in Adelaide.
Settling into Adelaide and university life was made easy for Céline with
UniSA’s support services, Learning and Teaching Unit and Campus Central. “The 2
days of orientation provided useful information such as accommodation
(rental database)”. In fact, Céline met her two first friends this way,
which she still has one and a half years later! “I went to Campus Central
when I had questions. They solved the problem or sent me to the right person.”
Céline lives in a share house in Mile End with Australian, Italian, Polish
and Belgium house-mates. The benefit of living in Adelaide means that Céline
is able to do almost everything by foot or by bike. The city is also close
to the sea. “Some people say Adelaide is too quiet, but I think you can
find plenty of things to do if you really want to. It’s also very easy to
speak to people compared to France (in the streets, bars…)”
There were a few things which Céline had to get used to when she first moved
to Adelaide -
“Cars driving on the other side of the road…which is very dangerous when
you cross the street as a pedestrian, it took me 3 months to get used to it.
Adelaide is much cleaner than in France - I know I’m really going to
struggle with this when coming back. People queuing to take the bus and
thanking the driver when getting off is very surprising, but I like it! The
people here are more casual and more relaxed.”
The things which Céline enjoys about being a student in Adelaide are having
friends from all over the world. Adelaide provides a quiet environment to
study in and the concession tickets for transport are a lot cheaper compared
to the bigger cities in Australia. Having just six contact hours per week
means that she has a lot of free time to study at home and sleep-in in the
mornings!
Céline believes that studying the Master of Management at UniSA will give
her knowledge of the global environment and international business
management. Once Céline graduates, she would like to go back to France and
find a job in the engineering field. “I hope that my management skills
acquired at uni will help me in my future career development.”
Céline’s advice to students from France considering studying at UniSA: “Don’t
stay with people who speak French - meet locals and people from all over the
world. Adopt the Australian way of life: take it easy and no worries…and
enjoy and travel!”
