For
Raquel Tomasa Romarate, UniSA was the only destination she had
in mind when she applied for her scholarship. “I was here in
2005 with other teacher educators from the Philippines. We
attended lectures and workshops at UniSA and I was deeply
impressed”. Raquel was drawn back to the city of Adelaide after
winning an AusAID scholarship from the Philippines for its
“relaxed and friendly environment as well as its cultural
diversity”.
As an AusAID sponsored student, Raquel participated in the
Introductory Academic Program which she believes was an integral
part of her academic experience. Raquel also talks about the
benefit she has received through the various student support
programs she has attended at UniSA.
Raquel commends the student centred approach in her program. “I
value the emphasis on credible, original and ethical research
and the encouragement of postgraduate students to think
independently and critically”.
“The best thing about being a UniSA student is ‘being a part of
a university that is involved in cutting edge research and a
university that values its student populace and what they bring
and contribute to the university”.
Raquel believes that the most valuable part of her overseas
study experience is studying with people from different parts of
the world; gaining an understanding of Australian education and
gaining a solid background in research.
“I am very pleased with my experiences at UniSA and would highly
recommend this institution to future students”.
