UniSA’s South Australian School of Art has a strong reputation, and the specialized majors were influential in Jihoon’s decision to transfer from another Australian University, where he had completed a two-year diploma.
“I realized that UniSA students won prizes in many design competitions, so I transferred to UniSA for my Bachelor Degree, with credit (from my previous studies)”.
Jihoon previously spent six years studying abroad and very quickly adapted to life at UniSA. He felt supported in his studies, “When I had assignment problems, I always discussed these with my lectures and tutors, and they were so helpful and nice.”
The scope of the course and the opportunity to take electives from other areas were attractive to Jihoon. “The Graphic and Illustration Design course covers all areas of 2D Design, such as CD covers, book covers, festival posters, company brochures, editorial illustrations and package design.”
Jihoon said one of the practical highlights of the program was “a field trip to a real design studio, printing company and exhibition.” Not content with fluency in Korean and English, Jihoon also studied Italian!
Jihoon found the program intensive, with many assignments. He took advantage of UniSA’s work-space for art students. “I often spent time in the Design Studio with my classmates, and I enjoyed it - for developing my design skills.” As well as the opportunities to learn from professional designers and develop his own design skills Jihoon enjoyed the “clean and new university buildings, many art and design books in the library, friendly lecturers and tutors and classmates from all different countries.”
Outside the University Jihoon discovered Adelaide had a “Safe and friendly environment, cheaper living costs than other Australian major cities, lots of yummy foods in Chinatown, free city circle bus and beautiful beaches.”
Jihoon also experienced Australian family life by choosing to homestay with an Adelaide family. “UniSA has lots of academic majors for undergraduate and postgraduate studies, with excellent facilities. UniSA will give you the best environment for professional study.”
