Postgraduate entry requirements
To apply for admission to any UniSA postgraduate program, you must
have successfully completed, to the required standard, an undergraduate degree from a recognised
higher education institution in Australia, or an equivalent
international institution.
Research degrees
Doctoral degrees
If you wish to apply for candidature for a Doctor of Philosophy or Research Professional Doctorate, you must satisfy the Research Degrees Committee of your competence to undertake a higher degree by research by holding, or being eligible to hold, from an approved higher education institution, an award which is assessed by the University as being equivalent to:
- an honours degree or a bachelor degree with honours of at least 2A standard or
- an appropriate master degree or
- such other qualifications acceptable to the Research Degrees Committee. In such cases, you must satisfy the committee of your fitness to undertake advanced work on the basis of achievement in, and relevance of, your previous higher education studies, professional experience or published research work. For the professional doctorate program, there will be normally an additional requirement of five years' practice in your field and normally within the last ten years.
Research Professional Doctorates are available in Communication, Health, Education, Human Service Research and Information Technology.
Master degrees
If you wish to apply for a master degree by research, you must hold, or be eligible to hold, from an approved higher education institution and in an appropriate discipline, an award assessed by the University as being equivalent to:
- an honours degree or bachelor degree with honours or
- a bachelor degree and a preliminary course of study of honours standard or
- an appropriate master degree or
- other acceptable qualifications, and demonstrated ability to undertake advanced work on the basis of previous higher education studies and professional experience or published research work.
Applications
Applications for all postgraduate degrees by research must be approved by UniSA's Research Degrees Committee on the recommendation of the Divisional Research Management Committee.
If you wish to be considered for admission into one of UniSA's postgraduate degrees by research, you will need to complete the Research Degree International Application Form (opens in a new browser window).
Coursework degrees
Professional doctorates
Professional doctorate programs normally extend over three years full-time and involve advanced coursework and research, as well as opportunities to investigate areas of professional practice in a particular discipline. Coursework professional doctorates are available in Psychology, Business, Project Management, IT, Clinical Pharmacy and Counselling.
Master degrees
Master degrees by coursework are offered in a range of disciplines normally extending over one to two years of full-time study. A number of programs also specify relevant practical or professional experience required for entry which may allow students to complete the program in a shorter time. Master degrees by coursework involve a significant research project or thesis normally equivalent to not more than 50 per cent of the program.
Graduate diplomas
Graduate diplomas usually require one year of study following the satisfactory completion of a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification. Graduate diploma programs may provide a bridge to a master degree by coursework program.
Graduate certificates
Graduate certificates generally require a half-year of study following the satisfactory completion of a bachelor degree or its equivalent. Graduate certificate programs may provide a bridge to a master degree by coursework program.
