International Student Officers
Located on each metropolitan UniSA campus, International Student Officers will often be the first people to turn to when you have a question or problem. They are experienced in dealing with the issues international students face and they provide a range of advice, information and support services for groups and individuals.
You will be introduced to an International Student Officer on your campus during your student orientation program. You can also meet them before you leave home if you complete the online pre-departure workshop
Learning Connection
Learning Connection provides a range of on-campus and online services and resources, including some specifically designed for international students, to help you succeed in your studies and manage student life.
Workshops
Specialised on-campus and online workshops cover a range of topics including academic and conversational English language skills development, pre-departure information, finding accommodation, organising your money and finances, study/life balance, and employment.
The free English language development workshops deal with subjects such as assignment writing, English grammar, English conversation, editing, referencing and more. Many international students find these workshops particularly helpful for writing university assignments.
Counselling
Learning Connection provides experienced and confidential counselling support services for all students. Counsellors can provide support and advice to help you resolve any problems related to your academic or personal progress. You may wish to speak to a counsellor about matters such as adjusting to living in a new culture, coping with relationship and family issues, dealing with homesickness, stress or depression, managing your time, or maintaining motivation.
Disability assistance
If you have a disability or medical condition, the Disability Advisers at Learning Connection can provide information and services to assist you during your studies. Services may include assistance to resolve access issues, arrange alternative forms of assessment, access specialised equipment, and organise notetakers and sign language interpreters.
Library
UniSA's modern libraries provide a range of services such as traditional print resources, DVDs, electronic books and journals, information literacy programs, resources specific to particular academic disciplines, study rooms, printing and photocopying, and on-campus and online training. There are also dedicated services and resources available for international students studying on campus and offshore, and basic library information can be provided in seven languages other than English.
Campus Central
With an office on each campus, Campus Central is the place to go for matters relating to the administrative aspects of your study life. Here you can get advice about your enrolment or timetable, pay for your overseas health cover (OSHC) or organise your student card.
Family Support
At UniSA we also recognise that partners and other family members accompanying our international students may need help and advice about settling into life in Australia. Help and advice for families is available from Learning Connection. You may also find the information on students with families in our pre-departure and arrival section useful.
Security
Security plays a very important role University-wide, ensuring that premises, offices and facilities are protected from extraneous forces, such as theft, vandalism and/or threat. This ensures a safe and secure work environment for staff, students and visitors. Security is maintained over a 24-hour period, seven days a week.
Common rooms/Prayer rooms
The City West, City East and Mawson Lakes campuses offer international student common rooms where you can meet other students and share your experiences. Prayer rooms for Muslim students are also available on each metropolitan campus.
Childcare
UniSA can provide qualified, flexible and multilingual childcare facilities for children under school age. Childcare centres are located on or near all of our campuses.
UniLife (UniSA students association)
UniLife provides a range of services and activities throughout the year for all UniSA students. They are a great way to meet new friends, see some of Australia and learn new skills. You could find yourself enjoying food and music from all over the world during Multicultural Week or indulging in music, food, drink and great company at one of the Association's many social gatherings.
Another way to meet new people is to join one of the UniLife's clubs or societies, some of which have been specifically established for international students. You could join a cricket team, take up ballroom dancing, try your hand at chess, indulge your passion for Japanese animation or discover a taste for hip hop music.
With over 40 clubs and societies the possibilities are endless. And if you can't find a club or society that interests you, you can start one yourself.
The UniLife Board comprises of students who have been elected to represent the educational, welfare and cultural interests of fellow students. They provide information on activities, events and services, and help international students to build connections with the wider community. A student representative is available to provide support.
