Workplacement
The Bachelor of Interior Architecture program aims to provide
students with a professionally relevant learning experience. One of the
key aspects of this is the compulsory workplacement requirement built
into the 2nd and 3rd years of the program.
The aim of professional workplacement is to introduce students to the
profession of interior design through work experience. On completion of
workplacement, students should be able to:
- Analyse and integrate the experiences of
practice into the design process;
- Demonstrate an understanding of the culture and practise of interior design.
Students are required to undertake a minimum of 120 hours of
workplacement during the 2nd and 3rd year of their program.
Students are encouraged to pursue workplacement in organisations that
suit their own emerging skills, areas of interest and career goals and
destinations. Workplacement is a valuable part of interior architecture
education and assists students to apply the practical, theoretical and
philosophical knowledge they accumulate at University to professional
design practice
Students are encouraged to keep a diary or journal during their
workplacement time to record observations and analysis of interior
design work practices and methodologies including:
- Company philosophies
- Scale, structure, organisation and procedures
- Project types, methods of process, administration, documentation and
presentation
- Office management protocols, design processes
- Leadership and teamwork, mentoring, collaborative practice
- Client interface, briefing procedures
- IT and skills base, performance measurements, client satisfaction
- Site operatives
