Steven Separovich

In 1992 I graduated from both the interior design and architecture courses at the University of South Australia. My studies prepared me for employment in a variety of design disciplines, from which I gained experience in interior design, architecture, and urban design offices.

After 2 years of post-graduate experience in Adelaide, I began entertaining the idea of relocating overseas to expand my horizons. London was top of my list of destinations - a fascinating capital city, close enough to other European cities to satisfy my travel bug!

Since moving to the UK, I have spent the last seven years employed at Terence Conran’s design practice Conran & Partners. To my mind, Conran & Partners is a unique practice viewing all facets of design as interrelated. Our office is multi-disciplinary, offering clients a complete design service incorporating graphic design, product design, interior design, architecture, and urban design. All Conran & Partners schemes are based on a strong idea informing every detail of the design, from the arrangement of space to materials and graphics. I admire individuals like the Italian futurist Gio Ponti and Arne Jacobsen who created holistic visions integrating the micro and the macro scales. To me, Terence Conran and Conran & Partners share the same pursuit. At Conran & Partners, I have had the opportunity to work on a spectrum of international projects at a range of scales, and have gained the experience to qualify as a registered architect in the UK.

In addition to working at Conran & Partners, my partner Tina Norden (also an architect at Conran & Partners) and I have pursued private work under the moniker ‘House of S+N’, working on a variety of small-scale domestic and restaurant projects.

My design education at UniSA prepared me well for working overseas and fuelled my desire to be creative and to understand the value of drawing inspiration from my environment.
