List of Prizes and Scholarships open to Interior Architecture students:

The Nicholas Opie Travelling Scholarship is open to all architecture and interior architecture students at 3rd and 4th year level. Four students to be nominated on aggregate marks for Design Construction Principles + Design Construction Housing plus either Construction in Workshop or Construction on site electives.
Submission of a journal/portfolio of design and construction, proposal of how the travel scholarship would be used, plus interview with Construction stream coordinator, Program Director and Head of School plus one invited practitioner. Selection and adjudication to take place in mid year break.

Prize: $2,000 per annum, sponsored for 5 years by the Louis Laybourne Smith School of Architecture and Design. The School is to seek external sponsorship after 2007, on which occasion the scholarship will be rebadged to include the sponsor’s name.

Nomination is based on academic merit in level 2 results, of students enrolled in the Bachelor of Interior Architecture. The successful applicant will be chosen based on academic excellence and ability to recognise the relationship between academic studies and the needs of the profession in interior design. Students will be invited to attend a personal interview, and to submit their current portfolio of work.

Prize: $3,000 paid in two annual instalments of $1,500. The nominees are also offered professional practice by Woods Bagot Pty. Ltd.

The Laminex/Formica prize in Interior Architecture will be awarded to the student enrolled in level 2 of the Bachelor of Interior Architecture who achieves the best joinery design, including Laminex/Formica products in the third assignment for the course Design Construction Detailing. Students completing the assignment will be required to give notice of their wish to be considered for the prize. The award will be determined by a panel comprising two members of staff of the LLS School of Architecture and Design and two representatives of the donors.

Prize: $500 and a certificate

The Design Institute of Australia Australasian Student Interior Design Competition annually includes over 50 entries from 12 Interior programs throughout Australasia. The 2004 prize was a Wegner CHo7 Chair from Corporate Culture, plus a cheque of $250 from the Design Institute of Australia and 1 year’s student membership of the DIA. Nathan Muller, a 2nd year Interior Architecture student from the Louis Laybourne Smith School of Architecture and Design at the University of South Australia won the 2004 DIA Australasian Student Interior Design Competition. The Design Institute of Australia Professional Encouragement Award - Interior Architecture is awarded to a final year student on the basis of academic achievement, leadership or teamwork skills, contribution to design community, good studentship, maturity and integrity and professionalism.

Prize: Certificate and one year's membership to the DIA

The Caroma Prize is awarded to the student with the highest aggregate mark in the courses Interior Architecture Studio 7: Advanced and Interior Architecture Studio 8: Advanced.

Prize: $400 and engraved trophy

The CIDA Technology Prize in Interior Architecture is awarded to the Interior Architecture student with the best demonstrated integration of technology in their final year exhibition presentation.

Prize: $250 CIDA voucher

The Armstrong Scholarship in Interior Architecture is awarded on the basis of academic merit in Design Studio 2 and Architecture and Environment results of students enrolled in the Bachelor of Interior Architecture. The successful applicant will be chosen based on academic excellence and ability to recognise the relationship between academic studies and the needs of the profession of Interior Architecture. Students will be invited to attend a personal interview and to submit their current portfolio of work in Design Studio 2 and Architecture and Environment.

Prize: $1,000 paid in two instalments of $500 twelve months apart

The Design Institute of Australia Modelmaking Prize in Interior Architecture is awarded on the basis of the Modelmaking project in Design Studio 1.

Prize: Certificate and one year's student membership to the DIA

The Folio/Foliage Prize for Interior Architecture Theory is open to Final Year Advanced Theory students. It has been offered annually since 2002.
