The
primary principle upon which the studio is based is that of
reductive abstraction. The exercises proceed through a method of
reductive abstraction in which a conceptual model is represented in
drawn form according to the principles used for representing design.
The reductive nature of composition is then, in the final exercise,
revealed as incomplete. This incomplete concept is then made whole
through the creativity of the designer and the introduction of a
”prosthesis” in the form of an historical or theoretical approach.
All the time though, the student is being taken through an exercise
in which an understanding can be had of the representation of
design.
Each student imade certain graphic measurements of a partner’s
body and to graphically record those measurements.

Each student used their set of measurements to create a
representation of a figure as a combination of positions.
