What
is it about the Burke & Wills expedition that could have value to a
contemporary society and the sponsor of the exhibition, the Royal
Society of Victoria. Is the event seen as an eccentric pursuit of the
Royal Society or does it have currency in contemporary Australian life?
Did the society sponsor a great vision or fall victim to vanity and
folly?
The exhibition medium has many sophisticated techniques and powerful
tools at its disposal. The master class explores the many ways the
interpretation of the Burke & Wills Expedition could translate into a
dramatic and meaningful visitor experience.
The content of the exhibition interpreted these historical events in a contemporary framework to have relevance and meaning to a visitor in 2002.
Over this 3 day masterclass, students were asked to design and spatially represent through models a permanent exhibition based on the Burke and Wills Expedition to be located in the Royal Society Building or at a conventional exhibition venue.
