Quality History

Quality Audit of Internationalisation

In April 2000 the University’s Senior Management Group established a Quality Audit of Internationalisation.  This audit, performed internally by a Self Assessment Team, was Phase 1 of an audit process that would later involve an external audit verification by Professor Leo West of Leo West Consulting.  The purpose of the audit was to assess and evaluate the University’s internationalisation strategy and implementation processes against its stated objectives.

West Review Report

In 1999-2000, as Phase 2 of the audit process, Professor Leo West chaired the University of South Australia—Quality Audit of Internationalisation, also know as the West Review (Word - staff access only).  Professor West made a range of recommendations across self audit, teaching and learning, data collection and planning and transnational programs.  The University responded immediately to urgent recommendations, then established the International Quality Steering Group to implement long term changes.

International Quality Steering Group (IQSG)

The International Quality Steering Group (IQSG) was convened in September 2002 to oversee the University’s international quality agenda.  The IQSG has become the steering body for self assessment and audit of all internationalisation activity by the University.  IQSG has overseen the implementation of internationalisation quality audit recommendations, quality projects through the Transnational Program Quality Action Plan, the framework for transnational reviews and the implementation of the 2003 Corporate Priority Transnational Education.

Transnational Program Quality Assurance (TPQA) Action Plan

Developed in 2002 for the IQSG, the TPQA Action Plan identified areas for improvement in transnational education in 2003.  Business development and risk management, program development and approval, management and administration and transnational program audits are all areas of focus for the plan.

Flexible Learning Centre Action Plan

Through policy development and service, the Flexible Learning Centre supports student learning and the professional development of academic teaching staff.  In support of the University’s Teaching and Learning objectives and Graduate Quality 7 the Flexible Learning Centre offers guidance on how teaching and learning strategies can be given an international perspective.  For more information contact Gavin Sanderson, Lecturer Professional Development.

Human Resources Plan

The Human Resources Unit has developed a framework for collaboration with the Flexible Learning Centre and UniSA International to plan and deliver training and development activities in relation to internationalisation.  An international perspective has been identified for each of their Key Result Areas, including recruitment, induction, training, workforce planning, remuneration and Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare.
