2007 Clare Burton Scholarships
The Clare Burton Scholarship provides funds to support post-graduate research into gender equity. The Scholarship was established by the five universities of the Australian Technology Network (ATN) to honour and continue the work of Dr. Clare Burton, a pioneering Australian researcher, into aspects of gender equity. A scholarship of $10,000 is available to a student enrolled, or intending to enrol, in an ATN university, in either a post-graduate coursework or research degree where the major piece of work is focused on gender equity. This is the fourth time the scholarship has been offered, since the inaugural round in 2002.
Research proposals which are likely to make a significant contribution to the field, or contribute to the solution of an important practical problem will be supported. Applicants should be enrolled or intending to enrol in a post-graduate coursework or research degree in an ATN university, and be an Australian resident. View further information and a copy of the guidelines.
The closing date for submissions for the 2007 scholarships is Friday 6 October.
IGSB Management Case Study Journal
Twice a year the IGSB produces an online journal called the Management Case Study Journal. We aim to source cases from real organisations that address issues of topical importance in management practice, and that have application in graduate management education in the Asia Pacific context. We welcome contributions that provide opportunity for critique and debate.
All contributions will be fully refereed by the double blind review process. All fields of management will be covered and, given the multidisciplinary nature of management, most cases will address a number of issues. The preferred length for each case is between 5000 and 7000 words.
IGSB Doctoral candidates or alumni who publish in the Management Case Study Journal are encouraged to apply for the IGSB Doctoral Scholars award.

DBA Collaborative Research Project: Registrations of interest invited
In 2005 the IGSB implemented its inaugural collaborative research project involving IGSB staff and DBA candidates from across the Asia Pacific. The proposed outcomes of the project are successful completion of the DBA program by each of the candidates, and at least two high quality research papers with joint authorship by the team.
The IGSB invites DBA candidates to register their interest in this project. A maximum of two DBA candidates are sought from each of the following program locations, Adelaide, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. For candidates who have not yet finalised their research topic, this is an excellent opportunity to be involved in a joint research activity with a group of IGSB academic staff and DBA colleagues around the globe.
This project should be of interest to candidates that have not yet finalised their research topic, have not yet commenced the Annotated Literature course, and have easy access to a multinational organisation located in their country.
The research topic is "Country of Origin Effects in Understanding Performance Measurement Usage in MNCs". The goal of the research is to understand the impact of country of origin of a multi-national company (MNC) on the performance management activities of managers in their Asian subsidiaries. In particular the research will focus on the degree of alignment between the cultural values of the country of origin of the MNC and the values of the managers in the country of operation, and to what extent does non-alignment impact on the use of performance measurement systems in the host country. Download further details (PDF 32kb)
Each DBA candidate will need to negotiate entry to a large branch office of a MNC, and will have three main tasks:
- Research part of the literature concerning the national cultural environment of the country of operation, the country of origin of the MNC etc
- Document the performance measurement system and associated factors that impact on it - reward systems, design , strategy, style of operation of the MNC
- Administer a questionnaire to 100 employees at middle manager level and below (if possible). The results will need to be processed according to statistical templates developed in IGSB.
The IGSB is planning on organising similar collaborative research projects in the future, and also welcomes registrations of interest from current doctoral candidates for future projects.
Registrations of interest should be sent via email to:
