Online study
The online mode of delivery
Students may elect to study
their MBA in an Online mode. This is an alternative to studying in a
face-to-face environment in Adelaide, Singapore or Malaysia. Our
online programs are delivered via the internet. The mode of delivery
emulates interactive seminar rooms, tutorials and syndicate work experience.
The virtual class meetings and workgroup discussions lead to effective
student group interaction and learning through formal and informal dialogue.

The online environment
Our approach combines practical, work-based problem solving with theoretical concepts, emphasising team learning. Our online environment is:
- an asynchronous networked method, based on the creation of learning dialogue and the operation of collaborative, interactive learning teams
- designed not to instruct, but to facilitate, engage and empower learners to fully participate in learning conversations
- a multi-path learning experience in which several dialogues take place concurrently and students are expected to participate in them all.
Each course is constructed in a scheduled modular format and students complete each module before progressing to the next. In all courses, students will be expected to apply theory and concepts to their own work environment, thus working on their own, real case studies based on their own organisational work situations.
Students will find a series of small lectures in the online study program that include a list of questions which will form the basis of the learning dialogue in the online seminar room. In the seminar room, students will contribute responses to set questions and also reflect on the responses of other participants, building a learning conversation between the group.
The website for each course also includes a participant database and a staff office for your queries to the IGSB administration team. Your lecturers will be introduced to you at the beginning of the study program, and the cafeteria is provided online for conversations with your fellow participants on any topic of interest.
Exemption, credit transfer and recognition of prior learning
In line with the University's policy on recognition of prior learning, students who have completed appropriate postgraduate management courses (achieving the equivalent of a Credit level) in programs at recognised institutions are granted status in relevant IGSB courses, pending assessment by the Program Director.
Examinations
There are no examinations for the online courses. Most of the courses require a minimum of three other pieces of assessable work, including projects, active participation in class discussions, assignments, group work and action learning.
Attendance requirements
You will not be required to attend the University in Adelaide at any time during the course. Naturally, we always welcome our online students whenever they may be visiting Adelaide on business or holidays, but the program does not impose any obligation for attendance at any time.
Hardware & software required
Our courses can be accessed on any internet connection at 56kps or above, using any browser. The courses do not contain voice or video packages, and hence soundcards, microphones and web cameras are not required
How long will my studies take?
Our online programs are offered in four study periods per year. Each study period is 11 weeks. Most students attempt one course per study period. However, with a high level of organisation, commitment and motivation, it may be possible to undertake two courses per study period from time to time. In order to maximise the learning outcomes, we recommend one course per study period. Each course will typically take up approximately 120 hours of your time spread over 11 weeks. That includes private study time (e.g. reading, researching, note-taking, reflective thinking, composing and editing online questions and assignments), as well as online time.
